Spring 2009 Contest Winner!

Congratulations to Alexander Vinh Nguyen for his extremely professional object-oriented solution to this quarter's Pattern Matching contest problem. There were many correct solutions this quarter, and in the end it came down to the solution with the fastest runtime!

Thanks to everyone for participating in the UCLA ACM Quarterly Programming Contest during the 2008-2009 academic year. Look forward to more exciting contests next year!

Winter 2009 Contest Winner!

UCLA ACM would like to congratulate Grace Park, who will receive a $50.00 Best Buy gift card for her efficient solution to the problem.
We received many correct solutions using brute force methods, but few were able to complete all the test cases within a minute. Grace went above and beyond to speed up her performance by using an intelligent mixture of combinatorics and prime factorization.
Well done, Grace! And thanks to everyone who participated!

Spring 2008 Contest Winners!

Congratulations to Jaymes Winger and Chun Wing Mike Yip, who will each receive a Google USB flash drive for solving this quarter's contest problem with the fastest solutions among lower-division and upper-division contestants respectively. There were plenty of submissions this quarter, which took a while to judge.

Thanks to everyone for participating in the UCLA ACM Quarterly Programming Contest during the 2007-2008 academic year.

Winter 2008 Contest Winner!

UCLA ACM would like to congratulate Matthew Pham, who will receive a Google wireless mouse for solving the contest problem with an optimized prime-finding algorithm. We had several solutions with varying creativity and efficiency, but when we counted the total clock cycles for all 9900 possible inputs, Matthew's algorithm blew away the competition by a margin of at least 18.75%.

Summer 2007 Contest Winner!

We have a winner for the Summer 2007 Quarterly Programming Contest!

UCLA ACM would like to congratulate Chris Peterson, who will receive a $25.00 Best Buy gift card for solving the contest problem in sudden-death overtime. The match was very close and we'd like to thank all contestants who persevered... but the greatest programming challenge is coming next month!

Summer 2007 Contest Closed!

The Summer 2007 Quarterly Programming Contest is now closed!

The winner will be announced soon... Unfortunately, due to legal reasons UCLA ACM could not accept anonymous submissions for this contest. Also, these contests are intended only for current or incoming UCLA students.

Summer 2007 Contest is now live!

The Summer 2007 UCLA ACM Quarterly Programming Contest is now live!

If you've wanted to submit an entry during the academic year but never had enough time, now's your chance. Also, all you incoming first-year CS/CSE students are welcome to join in and participate in this contest! We've got only one prize to give out this quarter, so it's anyone's game...

Deadline for submissions is September 15th, 2007.

Spring 2007 Contest Winner!

The Spring 2007 Quarterly Programming Contest is now over!

UCLA ACM would like to congratulate Michael Ryan, the Freshman/Sophomore winner, who will receive a $25.00 Best Buy gift card for solving the contest problem (accurately enough) using methods of approximation. Although other students tried similar algorithms, his implementation proved faster by thousands of clock cycles. We did not receive any entries from the Junior/Senior/Graduate category, which means ACM still has one remaining prize to give away...

Winter 2007 Contest Winner!

The Winter 2007 Quarterly Programming Contest is now over!

UCLA ACM would like to congratulate Sky Lin, the Freshman/Sophomore winner, who will receive a $25.00 Best Buy gift card for his intelligent, object-oriented solution to the contest problem. Curiously enough, we did not receive any correct entries from the Junior/Senior/Graduate category...

Thanks for participating in this quarter's contest, and prepare yourselves for the Spring 2007 Quarterly Programming Contest!

Fall 2006 Contest Winners!

The Fall 2006 Quarterly Programming Contest is now over!

UCLA ACM would like to congratulate Benjamin Nuernberger, the Freshman/Sophomore winner, and Romy Maxwell, the Junior/Senior/Graduate winner. Both winners will each receive a $25.00 Best Buy gift card.

We received over a dozen correct entries -- it was a challenge just to select the "winningest" one. So next quarter, we're kicking the difficulty up a notch! Thanks to all participants, and get ready for the Winter 2007 Quarterly Programming Contest!
